A Message from Our Pastor

Pastor J. Howard Cepelak

Perhaps you've heard it said, With God, there's no such thing as coincidence. I believe, that although our Lord allows for some degree of randomness in this world, coincidence plays no part when He moves in human history. So it's no coincidence that you have brought up Trinity's website. There's a divine purpose at work, even in the technology that brought you here.

We're living at a pivot point in history. Over the past several decades, so many of our mainline denominations have adapted to currently popular notions of what it means to be Christian. In the name of compassion, tolerance, diversity and inclusiveness, we've simply gone too far. Our compassion has become enabling; our tolerance has become intolerant of time tested Truth; our diversity divides us and our inclusiveness has excluded Jesus Christ.

I am reminded of St. Paul's words to his beloved Timothy, the apostle's spiritual son, serving as a young and timid bishop in the church at Ephesus. The apostle wrote,

For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own likings, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander into myths. (II Timothy 4:3-4)

We live at a time of itching ears, of people creating their own, self-serving religions, based not upon revealed Truth, but on their own likes and dislikes. In our part of the world, these various religions incorporate the personal and social doctrine of secular humanism, making this secular humanism the de facto religion.

Trinity Church proclaims God's revealed and time tested Truth, the central Truth being that Jesus Christ, crucified and risen, is the only Saviour of all mankind. This, of course, stands over and against secular humanism. We preach sound doctrine.

James Russell Lowell's great hymn, Once to Every Man and Nation says it perfectly.

Once to every man and nation comes the moment to decide,
In the strife of truth and falsehood, for the good or evil side ….

Everyone is being called to make a choice at this pivot point in human history.

We, at Trinity Church, are working to build up a significant congregation of committed Christian men and women. Currently a small assembly of people who love the Lord Jesus Christ and desire to be His faithful disciples, we take for our rule of life His Great Commandment. We seek to worship and to serve in the holy love that He both gives and commands. No one does this perfectly; hence, humility remains the first mark of the true Christian. But by the grace of God, many can often do it well.

If you are so moved to visit this beautiful church you will find great generosity, genuine kindness, high hope and heartfelt sympathy. These walls often echo with laughter. Our worship is glorious, our fellowship warm and our work hard. But the work is, for us, a great joy!

If you seek to cast your anchor in The One True Faith rather than ride the waves of the cultural storm, then Trinity Church may be your church home. And remember, there's no such thing as a coincidence with God. Thanks for checking our website. Hope to see you soon.

In His love and service,

The Rev. J. Howard Cepelak
